Spitzer Agonistes

In a few minutes, Gov. Eliot Spitzer is going to give a press conference concerning allegations he was involved with high-priced hookers. This is an amazing melt-down in record time of a once promising career.
Here’s a guy who got 70 percent of the vote…and from the get-go he’s stepped into one political mess after another. Let’s see there was Trooper-gate, the tussle over the naming of a new comptroller, the impasse over drivers licenses for illegal immigrants…And now this!
What on earth will Spitzer do? Will he resign?
Here’s my strategy: He should use the conference to propose a state law legalizing prostitution. It should be retroactive, of course.
It’s his only hope.

He will announce that he is resigning from his family in order to spend more time with politics.
That would be a good tactic but hypocritical because he prosecuted people tooth and nail for this very thing. People in glass houses shouldnt stow stones as my Science teacher used to tell us.
He needs to go to Bill Clinton and ask for advice. :-O
Ed, that was funny…And Steve, you are correct. But watch…if gambling is legal, how are far behind is legalized prostitution? Especially in a time of higher and higher taxes and budget cuts.
The state could do what it did to the Mafia when they started Lotto, and hire their own prostitutes and bureaucracy and start by purchasing that building in Elmsford from under Andy Spano’s nose. NYC has a lot of neon OTB signs they could donate. Hmm. “Our Taxed Bordello.”
Government has a knack for getting around the law when it comes to finding ways to increase revenue. They could legalize prostitution by not calling it prostitution. Call these women state certified sexual therapists. Bingo, it’s no longer prostitution. It’s no different than saying Video Lottery Terminals are not slot machines. Isn’t it?
I think we’re onto something here…state certified sexual therapists—Or as its’ called in the Yellow Pages—Escort Service. Make it part of the Department of Mental Health. Imagine the Medicaid fraud…it’ll be great.
What’s 8% of $4300.? Let’s see – if NYS ran it, it would be $50 for the girl less taxes, social security, disability, etc. The pols are left with $4300 + sales tax, less the fifty. And probably another five or so in state tax. The Steamroller might be amenable to being appointed Commissioner of Sanitary Services.
