Some Holiday Jeer

The following poem was sent to me anonymously by somebody who clearly is not a fan of the current regime in Westchester County government.
‘Twas a week before Christmas
On the Thursday forenoon
Mr Schwartz is in charge
Of A&C and its’ doins
Andy Spano’s in Manhattan
To fight global warming
Ahead of a blizzard
Due that Friday morning.
But back in White Plains
From the rich and the poor
Big bucks were assembled
And pushed out the door.
Almost two hundred millions
Of taxpayers’s money
Was spent by the county
And that isn’t funny.
Forty two million dollars
To improve mental health
Via Sixty one agencies
Spreading the wealth
The Planning Department spent
Nine million bucks
Which is not the occasion for
All sorts of yucks
Thought Schwartz when he closed
The meeting with pluck
“I guess that the taxpayers
Are plumb out of luck.”
So it is Christmas
And right on the button
The county ain’t like Santa
It’s just like Willie Sutton.

Phil Reisman is a veteran journalist and native of Westchester County. He began his career in 1977 as the head copy boy of a startup New York City newspaper that quickly went belly up. Reisman was not to blame for the newspaper's failure, or so he claims.
