Overheard today; Former Congressman Joe DioGuardi is apparently throwing his support to Rethinking County Government, the organization that’s looking at ways to streamline, or even do away with, Westchester County government
That was the low buzz at the annual St. Patrick’s Day Party held by WVOX radio chief William O’Shaughnessy at Dudley’s waterfront bar in New Rochelle. In keeping with a 41-year tradition, the event attracted an assortment of local pols and townies who paid their respects to the silver-haired “O Man.”
O’Shaughnessy has a big tent and a gift for flattery that makes even the lowest municipal dog catcher feel like a king.
DioGuardi, a Republican, who represented the 18th Congressional District, was not there (as far as I know) but he was mentioned by Rethinking’s prime organizer, Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner who was in attendance.
In the few minutes that I was there, I ran into County Executive Andy Spano, who shook my hand (amazing!) and said, “This guy always makes lemons out of lemonade”; County Clerk Tim Idoni, Eastchester Town Supervisor Anthony Colavita; New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson, Dan Schorr, a GOP candidate for district attorney and, of course, a mostly anonymous bunch of unindicted co-conspirators.

Phil Reisman is a veteran journalist and native of Westchester County. He began his career in 1977 as the head copy boy of a startup New York City newspaper that quickly went belly up. Reisman was not to blame for the newspaper's failure, or so he claims.

What a bunch of bloviating blowhards. Not a one of them would set foot in Dudley’s EVER, day or night, were it not for the chance to take advantage of a wonderful holiday by bloviating, selling something, finding votes and solidifying any political incest that might need some jolly healing. Listened for a while to a bit by two unctious nitwits who promoted Obama ad nauseam while telling us that we all have to pull together under the President, while at the same time insinuating that Bush was, and is, anathema to any right thinking person. I need this on St Patty’s Day. All in all, a more sophomoric presentation than ‘Long Day’s Journey’ performed by the Annunciation School eighth-grade. Who would believe that I would have more enjoyed old BS Bill himself, pontificating like the Archduke Ferdinand, glorifying some family of dry-cleaners or air conditioning mechanics.
Bill has to pay the bills Ed. As for Annunciation, do you know some one who had Ms.P in first grade.
I admit to sometimes being a tad harsh on Billy O’. I guess it’s just the combination of George Hamilton, Cardinal Richelieu, and the real-life Lake Wobegon schtick that drives me to distraction. I think if I hear another of his old stories about him and Governor Rockefeller discussing the fate of man over martinis at 21, I will pour gasoline over my head and ask for a match. Damn, there I go again! But, on a brighter note, my daughter, presently a grad student in the UK is due home next Monday, and I will ask her about Mrs. P, whom I can’t place.
Hey Ed, that’s funny as hell. I was over at the WVOX office today and O was very excited because he had an envelope filled with copies of old photographs of Rockefeller and Malcolm Wilson.
Sorry, I only did 8th grade at Annunciation.
When Monsignor Moore officiated at a wedding, would it be improper to call him ’ Moore the Marrier?’
