I covered the genesis of Hudson Hills as a local reporter, and later worked in Andy O'Rourke's public affairs office when the project was getting off the ground. The factual points of Tom Abinanti's letter ring true to me.

Setting aside land from the IBM parcel to provide taxable development for the town was a significant part of the deal. It was a prominent part of the discussion, not a footnote.

(Something about Hudson Hills appears to warp memories. I read a few years ago about some legislators who say now they "wouldn't have voted for it" [the land purchase] if they'd known it was for a golf course. *Everyone* knew it was for a golf course. Week after week, giant headlines.)
