It’s a short walk down the street from my where I live. And the asking price– $2.35 million. Without doubt, it’s the highest priced house in this particular Yonkers (Bronxville P.O.) neighborhood.
There probably more expensive homes in Lawrence Park West, but this ain’t Lawrence Park West.
Some people go to open houses without any serious intentions of buying. That’s not my bag.
But I always curious about the Castle and seized on the rare opportunity to take a look inside. It’s quite a place. It’s got 10 spacious bedrooms and nine- count ’em nine– fireplaces. The ground floor alone has more square footage than my entire house down the block. The wood-paneled drawing had a gigantic chandalier that was probably installed around the time the house was built in 1885.
The house also has a backyard swimming pool, but it’s right up against some neighboring homes, so there’s much privacy. The original property must have been much larger.
I wish I knew the history of the place. For instance, who built it? And did the stone come from the quarry in nearby Tuckahoe? If anybody knows, feel free to post.
The Castle is being marketed by Better Homes/Rand Realty.
