I’ve just gotten word that Brant, the brave and wonderful bomb sniffing dog who worked for so many years for the Westchester County Bomb Squad, has died at the age of 16. The news about Brant was relayed to me this morning. by Rich Smethurst, a retired county cop and former member of the bomb squad.
Here’s a photo taken in 2003 by Journal News photographer Frank Becerra, Jr., showing Brant (left) with his partner, Amy.
Amy died in 2004.
“Amy and Brant were the first two bomb dogs with the county police– and I probably shouldn’t say this, but they were probably the best bomb dogs they ever had.,” Smethurst said. “I’d say they were probably the best dogs New York ever saw.”
