Some interesting responses have come in as a resulted of yesterday’s column about an 81-year-old woman from Yonkers, who was fined $110 in the village of Bronxville for parking in a handicap parking space.
Florence Benisatto has a parking permit but forgot to display in on her rearview mirror. They fined her anyway.
Two readers were so incensed at the village’s insensitivity that they has offered to personally reimburse Benisatto. I haven’t yet back from her, but the early indication is that Benisatto will politely decline their generosity.
Bronxville is notorious for vigorously going after parking violators to raise revenue. Last t year, fines were raised. For example, before June 1, 2009 Benisatto’s fine would have been $80.
Only recently, the village decided to add an hour to its meter collection. In the past, collections started at 9 a.m. and ended at 6 p.m. Now, they start at 8 a.m.
