The Yonkers budget crisis continues to intensify.
Firefighter union members are stuffing mail boxes with a provocative flier showing a building engulfed in flames next to a headline “WHERE ARE THEY?”
It follows with: “That’s right, under Mayor Amicone’s budget proposal some fire companies will not be available to respond to emergencies like this. The problems can be traced to ALL levels of government!”
The flier blames the cash shortage on city officials who gave away “a trillion of your tax dollars” to special interests; however it goes no further in explaining that sensational allegation. Tax breaks to developers and unfair state school-aid formulas are also listed as reasons for the short fall.
“These elected officials want to fix this mess by cutting your fire department, cut so deep that the fire department will not be able to adequately respond to the almost 20,000 emergencies it is called to annually.”
If that isn’t scary enough, the flier predicts that “more people will die” if cuts aren’t restored.”
