Jim Russell, the Republican-Conservative candidate for the 18th Congressional seat held by Nita Lowey is suing me and eight other people– two of them colleagues of mine at The Journal News– for defamation of character. Russell, who lives in Hawthorne, is seeking $1 million.
This is the second time I’ve been sued in more than 11 years of column writing.
In this case, the lawsuit stems, in part, from my candid appraisal of a 16-page essay on race that Russell penned for the Occidental Quarterly several years ago.
The others named in the lawsuit are Leah Rae (Journal News), Matt Davies (Journal News), Richard French (RNN-TV), John Goff (Channel 12 News), Doug Colety (GOP chairman), Alexander Carey, Justin Elliott and Mark Weitzman.
