Nicholas DeCicco is virtually unknown in Westchester political circles, but in next week’s special election the Republican candidate for the county Board of Legislators is being touted as the “veto-proof candidate.”
He will appear on my “High Noon” radio program today at 12 noon. Turn your dial to 1460 AM or log onto www.wvox.com
DeCicco is running against Democrat MaryJane Shimsky in the Feb. 15 election to replace Tom Abinanti, a Greenburgh Democrat who held the seat for 20 years. Abinanti was elected to the state Assembly in November.
The Board’s current makeup of 12 Democrats and five Republicans gives the Democrats a super majority which allows them to override any veto imposed by County Executive Rob Astorino. They did just that when Astorino tried to veto 249 budget items and, because of the veto override, failed on all but two.
This alone makes next week’s election crucial.
DeCicco is a family court prosecutor, who serves on the Greenburgh Zoning Board.
Shimsky, who is a vice president of the Westchester Democratic Committee, could not make today’s program. We’ll have her on next week.
