Walking your dog is a quotidian chore, but Roger and I had some minor excitement this morning.
A brown-spotted Dalmation, who lives down the street from us, got loose. This happens from time to time with this dog. He came up to us on DeWitt Avenue and said hello. (Roger is great with other dogs). The run-away pooch bounded off before I could grab his collar, but it would’ve been hard to control him since he’s a fairly strong dog and I already had Roger straining by the leash.
He ran up the road. Deciding I’d look for him later, Roger and I continued over the parkway bridge into Bronxville and immediately saw a small crowd, including a dog-walker, surrounding an elderly woman who was lying on the ground. She was conscious, but couldn’t get up. A man called the village police and later an ambulance came and took the woman to Lawrence Hospital.
We went on our way. Later, I dropped Roger off at home and went looking for the Dalmation. No luck. I feel bad about that. I hope his owners found him.
